Circuit information

The British Grand Prix is held on the circuit near the village of Silverstone in Northamptonshire, approximately 130 kilometers north-west of London. The track was originally built on a World War II bomber base and first hosted a Formula One race in 1948. The circuit's layout has been changed several times especially in the last 12 years in order to improve drivers' safety and overtaking opportunities.

The 5.1 kilometers long circuit has 17 turns (10 rights and 7 lefts) in a well-balanced mixture of slow and fast ones combined with some fast straights.

Even though the British Grand Prix has been held in Silverstone for decades it has no secured place in the race calendar after 2009 when its current 5 year contract to host the grand prix matures.  Formula One mogul, Bernie Ecclestone has recently urged the organizers of the grand prix to raise the standards of the circuit to the level expected from modern race tracks.  As a result in 2007 a major investment of £25 million was spent on new grand stands, pit facilities and a development centre.

With the rise of F1 rookie, Lewis Hamilton, the British Grand Prix is expected to be sold out well in advance of the Grand Prix weekend. Make sure that you book your Formula One tickets in advance to secure your place at this exciting race.
