Circuit information

The Grand Premio De Espana is held in a valley just outside Jerez de la Fronetera, approximately 100km south-west of Sevilla.  The Jerez Circuit was opened in December 1985 and the first international motorcycle event in Spain, followed by the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix was held in 1986. The circuit can accommodate approximately 125,000 spectators. However due to its relatively remote location, the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix moved to Barcelona in 1990, though it remained a popular testing location due to the favorable climate. The 4.4 kilometer long circuit has a 600-meter long starting straight and 13 turns of which 8 are right hand corners and 5 left-handers. In order to improve riders' safety a revolutionary air fence was installed in the corners: the fence consists of compressed air modules designed to absorb the hit of a fallen rider.
