The 2nd-largest city in Portugal's Algarve region after Faro, Portimão is best known for its beach resorts, sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and ochre cliffs. It offers a variety of shopping malls, restaurants, nightclubs and bars. Don’t miss the fresh grilled sardines, a typical local dish.
This city combines the sparkling atmosphere of a big city with a compact size and easy access to the countryside. Alvor has the feeling of a small fishing village, while Praia da Rocha beach is a lively center full of restaurants, cafés and nightlife.
Every year, Portimão is the stage for the Mundialito de Futebol de Praia, an international beach soccer tournament. Sailing is also an important activity in the area, and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve race track has been open since 2008.

As a golfer this is the perfect spot. Many many quality options with 20-30 minutes. I still think it's the best location when traveling with a family. The beach is awesome and the food choices are excellent. Great access to sea tours and water taxi to Ferragudo from the marina. There's so much to do. I would recommend renting a car so you can visit numerous surrounding towns.

Nice little town to walk around, beautiful promenade along the River Arade. Options of long walks along the beaches. Some places require maintenance. Easy access launderettes for long stays and lots of apartments too.

Great location of the resort.
Great location of the resort. Too far from the malls and other destinations that we would've want to visit. We ate at the the restaurant at the resort and also in town. Also the restaurants on the beach.

There are few places directly from the city center where you can find yourself so close to the incredible power of nature. The combination of a big city and beautiful natural beaches. Amazing, quiet town with lots of small beaches. One of the most beautiful beaches for me ever. Easily accessible by train, bus, car, taxi, Uber, or boat. About 2 hours from Faro airport. by car. There is everywhere to roam. If you see everything in the city, you don't have to run far to other big cities, but just move to the suburbs, in the east or west by the ocean. You will also be charmed and surprised by their natural scenery.

We stayed at Praia Da Rocha and regularly walked into Portimão Centre. We used the train to visit Lagos which was a short trip and reasonably priced.
The beach was amazing and there are plenty of shops.

It was pretty deserted in Februrary and the weather was too cold to get into the water. We had a major tropical storm with high winds and very high waves so the weather was against us. Luckly we did the boat tour to the caves and grottoes on the first day before the storm, but the rest of our stay was impacted.
The hotel is great. Very clean and calm. The kitchen, living room and other common areas are very big compared to other places I have been to. The room was also quite big and with access to the balcony - With a view to the football stadium :)
The location is great for taking buses around in Algarve and the train station is also not that far away. The city center is close and the location is therefore great for enjoying Portimão. The beach is about 30 min walk away.
Mainly a good experience :)
The location of the hotel is super good. Close to the beach and to the souvenir shops as well as some really good restaurants. The pool is a good size for how many people were there in October, maybe not as good in peak season. You can get your dog with you at the hotel. The rooms and the shared facilities were super clean. The terrace is small but with a great view of the pool and sea, really relaxing to be there in the evening. The pancake machine was the highlight of the breakfast.
Having stayed in more than 50 hotels so far in my life, I can state that Algarve Casino Hotel in Portimao is an excellent and extraordinary hotel. Amazing beach view, great and fantastic services, stunning and big room, beautiful swimming pool, varied and delicious breakfast. Quite central.... Hotel staff (at the reception) are too serious and cold, they could be nicer and more welcoming.
Location was great, barely a 5-minute walk down to Praia do Vau, from where you have the amazing beach walk which you can take all the way to Praia da Rocha. Friendly and helpful staff, breakfast is fantastic with a lot to choose from. Lots of restaurants within walking distance, and if you like seafood, the best one is located just next to the hotel! Would definitely come back.
Good place to stay to see the south coast of Portugal. Comfy rooms, small parking by the building - available free, but only if there are free spots, so if you get to the hotel late it might be full, but there are lots of free parking spaces at the street behind the building. Close to the sea side. Lots of restaurants arround.
An amazing place to stay with so many outstanding touches. The decor and cleanliness were the best we’ve seen staying in Portugal. Very friendly and accommodating staff. The breakfast was amazing and worth the stay. Great location 300 ft from the beach. Parking onsite. We’d love to have this kind of hotel wherever we stay!
The hotel view of the beach is amazing and breakfast is full of options with fresh orange juice from Algarve :) The pool area is very nice for a sun bath and a drink. A special thumbs up for Marcelo, due to his professionalism and kindness. His choco frito saved our live a few times when our daughter was hungry.
The place is a little heaven of relaxation. Our room had a little terrace and a private bathroom. It was very clean and they also cleaned it every morning, which we were not expecting. The owners are lovely. This was one of the best stays of our Portugal roadtrip :)
Great hotel with great location. The breakfast buffet was great and the food was very fresh. Suitable for vegan and vegetarian. The only thing missing were the pastéis de nata (we only had them one day). The room was very big, the beds were comfortable.
The upgrades to the units are wonderful. I've been coming to this hotel since I was a little girl and returned with my husband and children. The change in ownership has allowed it to evolve while maintaining the charming qualities I love about it.
This was the most comfortable room I stayed on this trip between 6 hotels in Portugal and Italy. The bed was huge which is rare in Europe. The view was perfect and the hotel food is great too. Staff are super friendly.
The hotel is so beautiful with a lot of history. The design is unique and the beach view is amazing. The beach is so soft and clean! The breakfast was so good and very rich. One of the best that we had!
The hotel once was chic enough, but time passes.the apartment is spacey and when we couldn't turn the shower on, the staff member changed our apartment and immediately asked for a plumber to fix it
Great location with close access to the beach and nice restaurants. I would stay again, but only during the week. Portimao is a nice city and the beach was huge and had great restaurants on it.
Very nice hotel, pool and the view at the Marina was amazing. Breakfast was very good as well. Not sure about the kitchenette in a 4 star hotel but it came in handy. Overall a great experience.
Located very close to the beach and main strip with restaurants and clubs, comfortable and luxurious room, kind staff and the best breakfasts I’ve ever had at a hotel!
