The 2nd-largest city in Portugal's Algarve region after Faro, Portimão is best known for its beach resorts, sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and ochre cliffs. It offers a variety of shopping malls, restaurants, nightclubs and bars. Don’t miss the fresh grilled sardines, a typical local dish.

There are few places directly from the city center where you can find yourself so close to the incredible power of nature. The combination of a big city and beautiful natural beaches. Amazing, quiet town with lots of small beaches. One of the most beautiful beaches for me ever. Easily accessible by train, bus, car, taxi, Uber, or boat. About 2 hours from Faro airport. by car. There is everywhere to roam. If you see everything in the city, you don't have to run far to other big cities, but just move to the suburbs, in the east or west by the ocean. You will also be charmed and surprised by their natural scenery.

We stayed at Praia Da Rocha and regularly walked into Portimão Centre. We used the train to visit Lagos which was a short trip and reasonably priced.
The beach was amazing and there are plenty of shops.

It was pretty deserted in Februrary and the weather was too cold to get into the water. We had a major tropical storm with high winds and very high waves so the weather was against us. Luckly we did the boat tour to the caves and grottoes on the first day before the storm, but the rest of our stay was impacted.

A lot of things were closed but we expected that being January. There were still some amazing restaurants. Frequent bus service which is cheap. If there are 2 or more of you I would suggest Taxi, of which there are plnty. Or Uber or Bolt. These will work out cheaper than the bus.
Beautiful city with lots to see and do. Loved it and can't wait to go back

My problem is with Booking.com who have not refunded the other half of my money that they promised! Now they are saying it was a mistake. The mistake is theirs but they do not want to pay.

It is nice for people from cold regions to enjoy sunshine from mid of Oct to mid of Feb.
We selected three 10-plus-km hiking trails, which are well maintained.
People are friendly and it is a safe to walk at nights.
We tried to find the best restaurants, but remember many high rating restaurants are close till 7 PM. We have never found a prestigious restaurants, all of foods are average. We dont like any buffets for dinner.
We might catch a covid with cough, trying to find water melon, which looks hard.
The hotel was as expected..It's a two star budget hotel and it does exactly what it says on the tin.Our accommodation was spacious ,with a double balcony ,kitchen and a large bathroom which was kept sparkling throughout our stay. There is a small pool area ,and an outdoor seating.area.The snack bar has a limited menu , reasonably priced and the bar likewise.Staff are pleasant, especially the bar staff .Thank you to the lovely ,and newly wed Maria and also Mateus ,for making our stay so pleasant.
The location of the hotel is super good. Close to the beach and to the souvenir shops as well as some really good restaurants. The pool is a good size for how many people were there in October, maybe not as good in peak season. You can get your dog with you at the hotel. The rooms and the shared facilities were super clean. The terrace is small but with a great view of the pool and sea, really relaxing to be there in the evening. The pancake machine was the highlight of the breakfast.
perfect location surrounded by the strip, the beach and plenty of shops and places to eat. friendly staff that were available on WhatsApp pretty much 24/7, our electric went one evening and someone came to fix it just 5 mins later.
we stayed on the 12th floor and had a lovely view of the beach. the only thing would be I wish the balcony would have had sun on it it was shaded all day. otherwise everything was perfect. will be staying here again next time we come to Portugal.
Our stay at Bela Vista was a wonderful experience! From the moment, we walked in and until the moment we checked out, the service and attention to detail was top notch. Our room was spotless and the view was amazing. We relaxed by the pool and the hotel even had their own access to the beach. One of the highlights of our stay was dinner at their Vista restaurant. What an experience! We can’t wait to come back next summer!
Hotel was super clean, rooms had enough space compared to other hotels in Portugal. Bad was also in the right size. WiFi was OK but not super fast. Only be aware, that this hotel is in the old town so some minutes away from the beaches. In the downtown there are multiple restaurants and some bars with can reached by food. There are busses towards the beaches which can be used if you don't want to walk the ~30mins.
The Algarve Casino Hotel has direct access to the stunning beach (via a stairway). It is spotlessly clean. Some may find the decor dated, but we found that it retro and with its own charm. The personnel are courteous and friendly. We would give special thanks to Nuno on reception and Ricardo, Ana, Olga & Viktor for their excellent service in the bars. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and will definitely be back.
Have stayed at Hotel Da Rocha many times. It is a fantastic Hotel with a perfect Location a few metres from the beach. The Side Sea View Room was brilliant and spotlessly clean and a huge luxurious Bed. The Breakfast is amazing with a huge variety of food to choose from. All The Staff are very welcoming and friendly. All in all a great Hotel. We will be returning.
Breakfast was perfect, fresh fruit in the morning and the best avocado I've ever eaten! Everything was so good and honestly the breakfast here was better than any other breakfast we've had in Portugal. This place is heaven on earth, surrounded by nature and cats! It's perfect to find rest after a long day in a busy city center or at the beach!
In general this 2 star hotel is deserving of a higher rating. The staff, breakfast, pool, facilities and appearance of the hotel is superb. The location is fantastic, literally 5 minutes walk to the beach. Easy bus links to both Alvor and Portimao about 15 minutes each way. I would definitely stay here again (just not in our room)
Very nice and clean apartment in quiet residential complex.Praia da Rocha is the closest beach and one of the best in Algarve region. There are a couple of supermarkets, restaurants in the area but if you are looking for something more authentic I would suggest going to the old town of Portimão.We had a great stay.Thank you
We had the partial sea view room. Sunset was amazing and view of city and beach were wonderful. Parking was easy and well monitored. Bed was super comfy and room was spacious. Great location steps away from main drag on beach. Would definitely recommend if you are staying in Portimao. Close to cute towns in the Algarve.
Though this hotel has clearly seen its better days (around 70s or 80s, I guess), the rooms and facilities are quite spacious, everything is clean and there's a free indoor pool and breakfast included. At one of the lowest prices in town is was an ok deal (mainly because there wasn't anything better at this price point).
The hotel had a modern.
The surrounding area is nice with exception to abandoned constructed buildings. Seems they wanted to expand but regretted it afterwards and never opened. Pool area is nice even though ended up not using it.
Rooms are very big which is a big plus.
Great price quality with an extremely friendly host. The location is quiet at night and close to the most important locations in portimao. Great wifi, free netflix for the kids and a small terrace to enjoy the beautifull weather from algarve.
Great location with close access to the beach and nice restaurants. I would stay again, but only during the week. Portimao is a nice city and the beach was huge and had great restaurants on it.
Very nice hotel, pool and the view at the Marina was amazing. Breakfast was very good as well. Not sure about the kitchenette in a 4 star hotel but it came in handy. Overall a great experience.
absolutely nothing, I have never experience more rude staff in my life. made my trip to Portimao and absolute horror. pick any other hotel, pick a hostel. anything but AP oriental.
Located very close to the beach and main strip with restaurants and clubs, comfortable and luxurious room, kind staff and the best breakfasts I’ve ever had at a hotel!
