Circuit information

The Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar is held 20km north of Doha, the capital of the Persian Gulf state of Qatar.  The Losail International Circuit was built in 2004 just under one year by more than 1000 workers on site and cost more than $ 58 million. The circuit has recently been upgraded with full track lighting which enabled the circuit to host the first night race in MotoGP's history in 2007. The 5.4 kilometer (3.3 miles) long circuit has 16 turns of which 10 are right hand corners and 6 left-handers. At the end of the 1.048 meters long final straight the bikes reach their top speed of 330 km/h. Since the track was built in the middle of the desert, an area of artificial grass was installed around the track in order to prevent the sand to be blown to the track and make racing impossible. There have been large run-off areas built around the circuit so that Formula 1 testing and race may also be held in the future.
